RNA: Gene Expression and Regulation

RNA performs several functions in the conversion of genetic information into functional biological products.

The main types of RNA include:

  • Messenger RNA (mRNA): Carries genetic instructions from DNA to ribosomes for protein synthesis.

  • Transfer RNA (tRNA): Delivers amino acids to ribosomes during translation.

  • Ribosomal RNA (rRNA): Forms a structural and catalytic component of ribosomes.

  • Regulatory RNA: Includes molecules such as microRNAs that influence gene expression.

RNA analysis helps researchers investigate transcriptional activity, cellular responses, disease mechanisms, and molecular pathways.
