What Are Nucleic Acids?

Nucleic acids are essential biological molecules responsible for storing, transmitting, and expressing genetic information. They are fundamental to the growth, development, reproduction, and functioning of living organisms.

There are two major types of nucleic acids: deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). Although they share several structural characteristics, they differ in their chemical composition, organization, stability, and biological functions.

DNA primarily stores genetic information, while RNA participates in gene expression, protein synthesis, and the regulation of numerous cellular processes.
